How to use the punch list template
1. Download and open in Excel or Google Sheets
The template is a standard .xlsx file. Make one copy per project (or per floor/area if the list is large) so closeout stays organized.
2. Log every deficiency as you walk the site
Add a row for each punch item with location, description, trade, and priority. Assign an owner and a due date so the list is more than a dump of photos.
3. Update status as contractors respond
Move items from open to in progress to ready for review to closed. Use notes to record what was fixed — photos still live on your phone until you move to software.
4. Export the log for owner handover
Filter to closed items for the closeout package, or keep open items as the remaining-work list. A clean punch log is expected at substantial completion.
